New Initiative Promotes Recycling of Plastics
Frankenthal (Germany), October 10, 2019 – The Circular Plastics Alliance is committed to establishing a circular economy and significantly increasing the use of recycled plastics. The Alliance, founded by the European Commission, adopted its official declaration in Brussels end of September. The RKW Group is one of the signatories to the document.
"As one of the leading manufacturers of film solutions, we have established sustainability as an integral part of our corporate policy and business mission," said Harald Biederbick, CEO of RKW Group. "Recycling is one of our most important measures. We therefore fully endorse the objectives of the Circular Plastics Alliance". Together with other businesses and associations, RKW aims to help ensure that, by 2025, at least ten million tons of recycled plastics annually will be processed into products and packaging in Europe.
More sustainability through recycling
In order to achieve this goal, the signatories commit to work together along the plastics value chain and to exploit the potential of recyclable plastics in the circular economy. Among other things, the declaration calls for recycling guidelines for all plastic products. In addition, the companies involved are advocating to the public authorities a ban on depositing plastics in nature. Apart from RKW, more than one hundred companies and associations from the entire plastics value chain have signed the document.
RKW is a member of various associations and organizations concerned with sustainability. The company is also active in many areas of sustainability, for example, through its efforts to reduce film thickness, by developing solutions that significantly reduce environmental impact, and by participating in the Zero-Pellet Initiative, where companies commit to minimize the loss of plastic pellets (granulate) across the entire process chain. In all phases of a product’s life, from its inception to its proper disposal, we strive to protect natural resources, reduce emissions, prevent waste, avoid environmental pollution and optimize logistics.
