40 Years of Film Production in Nordhorn
Frankenthal (Germany), June 04, 2019 - On May 25, 2019, the RKW Site in Nordhorn celebrated its 40th anniversary with a festive day for employees and their families. The production Site for plastic films with about 150 employees opened the factory gates for approximately 500 guests and celebrated its anniversary. RKW Nordhorn was established in 1979 and has been part of the RKW Group since 2002.
Founded in 1979 as AOE Plastic GmbH, RKW Nordhorn is today a state-of-the-art production Site for plastic films. Since the beginning, the Site has been producing films for transport safety. In the early 90s, films for hygiene articles were added. A lot has changed since then. For instance, products are becoming thinner, more durable and more sustainable.
The Site's 150 employees process about 25,000 tonnes of polyethylene and polypropylene per year. The plastic films are then further processed by the customers, e.g., in feminine care products, diapers or other baby care products, or are being used directly as pallet and transport protection. RKW Nordhorn is one of the region's top-selling plants and is also part of the "Ems-Achse" plastics network, a regional association of the plastics processing industry.
The employees' relatives had the chance to see live how such a plastic film is made: For the anniversary celebration on 25 May, the doors opened all day for around 500 visitors, so that employees from all shifts had the opportunity to show their families their workplace and the production area. The RKW employees guided the visitors through the Site in the secured area and showed a somewhat reduced but realistic production. Afterwards, the guests were able to fortify themselves at the barbecue buffet. The children had fun in the bouncy castle and other small attractions. It was a successful day on which the 40th anniversary of RKW Nordhorn was duly celebrated.
"The visitors were very interested in learning more about the production processes. Thanks to the commitment of our volunteer event helpers, they gained exciting insights into the world of plastics. This - and the excellent weather - made the anniversary celebration a complete success," said RKW Nordhorn's General Manager Nande van Aken.
